Applying the Concept
We work with places to help them understand how their economy is changing in the context of the recession and the knowledge economy, and what they need to do to grow it further:
- City Relationships (2009 – ongoing): Project supported by the Northern Way and CLG, in partnership with the Centre for Cities and SURF. Analysis of how economic relationships between cities can be made more complementary, investigating links between economic centres and neighbouring towns and cities in Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield and Tyne & Wear. Due to be published in the autumn.
- Innovation in the East of England (February 2009): Review of the nature, scale and scope of innovation in the East of England relative to other UK and international regions, to feed into the current and future strategies of EEDA and its partners, informing how regional innovation is supported and how performance and progress are monitored.

Innovation in Leeds City Region (May 2009): Action plan for Leeds City Region to increase innovation and fully realise its innovation potential, basedon a detailed analysis of the innovation strengths and weaknesses of the city region relative to the UK core city regions.

Supporting Sustainable Economic Growth in the West Midlands (June 2009). Review of the region’s economic geography and its knowledge economy and analysis the factors that have driven economic growth and are likely to enable sustainable growth during the recession and recovery.
- Transforming North Staffordshire (February 2008). Strategic analysis of how North Staffordshire (Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme and the Staffordshire Moorlands) can improve its economy, working with key stakeholders to develop a vision and action plan.
- Priorities for Sheffield City-Region in the Knowledge Economy (October 2007). Strategic analysis of where Sheffield City-Region’s knowledge economy is now and priorities for action to grow its knowledge economy.
